Releases are more than just dual calipers, single calipers, loop hooks, etc. They have distinct features that are suited for individual preferences. Take for example the new FlatHead from Jim Fletcher Archery. Owning characteristics similar to the popular Fletchunter, the Flathead differentiates from the previous with a forward trigger design, which increases the availability of draw length adjustments. The single caliper jaw release has been machined from aircraft quality aluminum and features Jim Fletcher's self locking, over-center trigger design, which helps provide a smooth fully adjustable trigger pull. An inset hook easily can be connected to a string loop without having to worry about slippage. The Flathead is available with a Velcro wrist strap or deluxe buckle model, and also offers the choice between a black anodized and Toxic Green finish. Most importantly, like most of the Fletcher releases, the Flathead is designed to be a hair trigger release. The ability to trigger the release with the slightest amount of pressure has helped a number of hunters perfect a consistent back tension release. Allowing the back and shoulder muscles to take over while triggering has been commonly accepted in the target arena, and now with hair-trigger releases, practically the same level of consistency and accuracy is being achieved in hunting situations. Finding the perfect trigger travel is easily done by the adjustment of one hex nut. Note that the release should never be adjusted to the point where the release can't hold the string. Carefully adjust in small increments, drawing back the bow each time with arrow nocked and pointed in a safe direction to ensure that the string can be held. Too, test by holding for longer durations while at full draw to build confidence in your equipment and your shot.
