Trophy Ridge Hit-Man

by Christian Berg   |  October 28th, 2010 0

Trophy Ridge hit a home run last year with its Alpha line of vertical-pin sights. So, when I found out the company was coming out with a new line of horizontal-pin sights for 2010 that offers many of the Alpha features, I was extremely interested.

The new Hit-Man series — available in 3-, 5- and 7-pin configurations — features all-aluminum construction and the brightest aiming points Trophy Ridge has ever offered, thanks to 12 inches of fiber optic for each pin. Light transmission is maximized by a clear protective fiber optic ring on the front of the sight that allows light to penetrate while keeping out debris and protecting the fiber from damage.

The rear of the pin housing, meanwhile, features a luminescent sight ring for fast target acquisition in low light and a bubble level with third-axis adjustability. Hit-Man sights also come standard with a rheostat pin light and can be configured for left- and right-handed shooters. Standard pin size is .019-inch, but .010-inch pins, as well as a toolless micro-adjust option for windage and elevation, are available on the 5- and 7-pin versions.

I tested the Micro Hit-Man 5 on my new Mathews Z7 and was impressed with its performance. Installation was easy, and sighting in was simple thanks to the micro-adjust knobs and hash marks that allow you to quickly dial your arrows into the bull’s-eye. I found pin brightness good as advertised and felt comfortable aligning the pin housing in my peep-sight opening.

The sight is also rock solid on the bow, with no noticeable noise or vibration. I’ve literally been pounding arrow groups into the 10-ring with this sight and can’t wait to start hunting with it. MSRP: $89.99
