Fletched Arrow Squaring Tool (F.A.S.T.)

by Danny Farris   |  October 28th, 2010 0

Savvy archers know the importance of properly squaring the end of your arrow shafts to achieve optimum accuracy. Assuming your arrows have been properly squared by the manufacturer, or by the local pro shop’s arrow cut-off saw, is a mistake. Even with the greatest of care, achieving a perfectly square cut with a conventional cut-off saw is virtually impossible.

Arrow squaring tools have been available for several years, although most are designed to square bare shafts only. Squaring the nock end of a fletched shaft has been a problem. Enter the Fletched Arrow Squaring Tool (F.A.S.T.) from Burt Coyote Company — the makers of Lumenok. Like any other nock, the Lumenok performs best when the rear end of the arrow shaft is clean and square. Burt Coyote initially designed the F.A.S.T. to accommodate Lumenok users who needed to square the end of fletched arrows.

However, all archers can benefit from properly squaring the ends of their arrows, and because most of us purchase our arrows pre-fletched, the F.A.S.T. is the best tool for the job. As its acronym suggests, achieving perfectly square arrow shafts with this tool is fast and easy, and the F.A.S.T. can be used on carbon, aluminum and aluminum-carbon shafts.

Before placing my arrows into the F.A.S.T., I color the thin wall on the end with a silver marker. Then one after another, I simply lay each shaft in the F.A.S.T. and spin it with the end placed firmly against the abrasive disk at the end of the tool. Once the silver mark I made has disappeared, I know the end of the arrow is perfectly square. To see a video demonstration of the F.A.S.T., visit http://lumenok.net/howto.htm. MSRP: $32.95
