Broadhead Practice Is In Session

by Daniel Beraldo   |  October 28th, 2010 0

In 2006, Rinehart Targets’ Barbara McGovern and husband James introduced the portable 18-1 with Full Year Guarantee and self-healing foam to pro shops and big box stores across the country. Suited for field point and broadhead practice — mechanical and fixed — Rinehart’s specially formulated self-healing foam is designed to hold its shape, remain rigid and provide easy arrow removal.

Thanks to Rinehart’s Full Year Guarantee, the 18-1 is ideal for the hardcore bowhunter who practices religiously with broadheads prior to hunting season. Dedicated hunters know nothing beats practicing with the equipment you intend to carry into the field. With the guarantee, Rinehart states that if all 18 sides get shot completely through within one year, they’ll replace it hassle free.

Eighteen shooting faces with varying target diameters colored in fluorescent green make practice sessions competitive when needed and also help minimize wear in one spot. That’s what makes the 18-1 special — its ability to continually take a pounding year after year. I was given an 18-1 in the fall of 2006 and challenged to blow through all 18 sides in one year.

Well, that same target remains in perfect shooting shape to this day. Besides barely visible broadhead slits, you’d barely notice it was shot up. It travels with me to my hunting camps, and if I’m ever scouting and heading to a safe area where I can shoot, I’ll bring it along for a midday shooting session. Not everyone has the luxury of having a huge shooting range at his or her fingertips.

The 18-1 is a great travel target and features a heavy-duty braided handle molded into the foam. Portable targets with dependable handles makes a world of difference.
