Cabela's Microtex

Back in the spring of 2003, I was shopping for some new hunting duds when a friend recommended that I give Cabela’s Microtex a try. I took the advice and purchased a set of Microtex Uninsulated Six-Pocket Pants and a button-up Shirt, both in Cabela’s Outfitter Camouflage. Since then, I’ve put that set of clothes through the ringer. I’ve worn them on spring turkey hunts, high-country mule deer hunts, hardwoods whitetail hunts, plains antelope hunts and several backcountry elk hunts where I didn’t change clothes for more than a week.

Looking back, I’ve undoubtedly used that set of Microtex more than any other set of hunting clothes I own. Here’s the kicker though -- other than a couple small tears caused by arguments with barbed-wire fences, my Microtex looks and feels brand new! Microtex is a Cabela’s-exclusive fabric that features a tightly woven, low-nap brushed polyester blend.

It’s as quiet as fleece and as durable as denim. It also breathes well, dries quickly and doesn’t shrink or fade. Combine this feature-packed fabric with a versatile pattern such as Cabela’s Outfitter Camo and you end up with an absolutely outstanding set of hunting apparel. If, heaven forbid, I was ever limited to just one set of hunting clothes for all of my hunts, for the rest of my life, Cabela’s Microtex in Outfitter Camo would be my choice.

That’s not to say I believe it’s the best apparel for every hunting scenario, but I do believe you’d be hard pressed to find another one versatile enough to outperform it in all scenarios. Recently, Cabela’s introduced a lighter version of Microtex called Microtex Lite.

It offers the same no-shrink, no-fade, tough as nails durability, only at half the weight. I’ve not yet had the opportunity to venture out in the new Microtex Lite, but based on my experience with the original, you can bet your bottom dollar that you’ll find me in it on my next “hot bowhunt.” MSRP: $49.95-$79.95 for uninsulated and insulated Microtex and Microtex Lite XT pants and shirts.
