It was November 15, 2005, and a blistering cold morning with a wind chill of negative 10 degrees. A light snow had fallen overnight and the bucks were rutting hard. I arrived at my stand about 5:45 a.m. and was set up in a tree stand that was located where the creek bottom funneled together from three directions forming a Y-shape. At about 7:50 that morning, I spotted a nice deer coming in from the east. He walked right up to my tree and sniffed the base. He slowly turned away and started to quarter away from me from left to right. I finally had an angle for a good shot and released an arrow when he was 22 yards away. It was a good hit and I found him 100 yards away from my stand. He was 5.5 years old with 10 typical points and grossed 1732⁄8 inches. This was my second whitetail taken with a bow and I couldn't be happier.
