My wife and I had tags for a great unit in central California. After a few scouting trips, we located several bachelor herds. On August 21, 2006 we located a decent buck. The weather was perfect, 65 degrees, clear blue skies and little wind. My wife Lorie put the moves on him but the wind must have swirled at the last second and out he went. What we didn't see was the other six bucks that he was with. At about 3:20 p.m., three hours later, we located the group again. I had got to within 100 yards, but had nowhere else to go without blowing the herd out of their beds. My wife was approaching them from the opposite side and ended up bumping them straight to me. They spotted me at 20 yards and took a couple bounds off and stopped at about 35 yards offering me a good shot angle. I'm a lucky man and I owe my wife a fancy night out on the town!
