On September 25, 2005, I reached my stand around 6:30 a.m. on a cool, 50-degree morning with a northwest wind blowing 15 to 25 mph. I hadn't been there very long when two young bucks entered and started polishing their horns. Five minutes later a couple of does appeared off to my east approaching at a steady walk. They eventually circled and went back the way they had come. To my surprise, a 5x6 stepped out of the trees and started watching the does walk the other way. He stood there for a couple of minutes until the two young bucks in front of my stand started rubbing again. He then turned to the two bucks, took one look, and started walking toward them. He stopped right in front of my stand at 13 yards and put his head down. I drew and released an accurate arrow. After an 85-yard trail, I recovered my 5x6. He had a 225⁄8-inch outside spread and 12-inch G2s and G3s. He gross scored 1746⁄8 inches.
