On May 7, 2005, I was hunting in Fresno County and the weather was calm and clear in the mid '70s. Thanks to the DFG extending the turkey season for bowhunters an extra two weeks, I was able to bring along my turkey tag while attempting to arrow a nice hog. It was nearing dark on my way back from the days hike when I saw a big gobbler in full strut. He saw me and slid down a draw about 100 yards and started strutting again. I slipped down the draw next to him and I hit the hen call and he came running. I shot him with a Texas heart shot at 15 yards. This was my first turkey with a bow. He had a nine-inch beard and three-quarter-inch spurs.
