It was October 16, 2004, and it was a cloudy Saturday morning in Ulster County. I was hunting in my tree stand and saw about six deer about 70 yards out. Then it rained, just enough to get wet. I was ready to quit, but thought I should just stick it out for another hour. Then I saw him, about 200 yards out, a magnificent black bear. He walked right to me within 20 yards. He was blocked by some trees, which gave me the chance to draw my bow. At 14 yards, I hit with a perfect shot behind the front shoulder. He was a two-year-old bear and weighed 150 pounds. This was my first bear ever and I know I'll never want to quit again.
