My exciting story took place October 15, 2015. I couldn’t wait to get out of work for an afternoon hunt. Finally 3:00 pm rolled around after what seemed like a never ending work day. I hurried as fast as possible to get to the woods to one of my favorite spots to sit. If you know me, I am not a tree stand guy and I don’t do well with heights. So I got to my spot tucked up against a boulder on the base of a ridge. I sat patiently waiting envisioning a picture perfect 10-point buck walking over the ridge and into my sights. Little did I know what was about to happen. At about 5:30 pm I saw movement in the corner of my eye to my left. It was a big black bear. I was getting so excited as I saw him coming my way. I watched him stand up on his hind legs rubbing his back on a nearby tree. I could tell that he was tremendous. After this, he got back on all fours and started lumbering closer. He came in about 25 yards from me and walked behind a tree giving me my chance to draw back. When he cleared the tree, I took my shot. As soon as my Arrow with a RAGE chisel tip broadhead hit him, blood began to pour out! What happened next is where the story takes the bone chilling turn. After the bear turned to roar and bite at where my arrow hit him he took off running. It just so happened he came right towards me. As it charged my mind raced! I was thinking, Is this bear gonna maul me? I braced myself for the impact, there was no time for me to get out of the way. I could hear him grunting and groaning as he grew near. He plowed right in to me and sent me and my bow flying. As a rolled to my side I was relieved to see that he kept running about 15 yards to the next ridge. He stood there for a few seconds with the blood continuing to pour. Then down he went. I’m thankful for the way it turned out. Although my bow was broken I got my trophy, a 500lb black bear and a story of a life time.
