Members and friends from all over the west were on hand at Safari Club International's Veteran Memorial Building fundraiser and special awards dinner in Porterville, CA to help pay tribute to Doug Walker, a Veteran of WWII, who was presented the SCI Medal of Valor.

At the age of 16, Walker enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was trained as a paratrooper and reconnaissance scout. He later served with the Recon Platoon of the 82nd Airborne Special Troops Regiment. His company was commissioned as the Guard of Honor for the Unknown Soldier of WWII, which led the Unknown Soldier’s flag-draped caisson from the docks of New York up 5th Avenue and then into Central Park with a thunderous 21 cannon salute.

Walker was Honorably Discharged as a Veteran of WWII, just two months prior to his 18th birthday. Besides being presented with SCI’s Medal of Valor, Doug is one of the youngest veterans of WWII alive today.
