Sensitive Trigger

People definitely have their own preference when dealing with releases. Some choose the same release for many consecutive seasons. Why? Consistency and performance are obvious issues at hand, but satisfying performance also plays into our choice of gear. Fortunately for all of us, improved machined parts, and greater technology keep changing the playing field. It's important these days to know what's available.

The Primos licensed .44 Caliper release from Jim Fletcher is sure to please in the field. The release employs inter-locking jaws, which helps prevent a loop or bowstring from slipping due to wear. The release was specifically designed as a hair trigger release. A 5/64 Allen wrench is all it takes to make the necessary adjustment needed to get the proper weight of pull.

When I first tested the amount of pressure needed to fire the release I was amazed at the sensitivity it required to fire it. I prefer a little more finger pressure since I like to secure the trigger under my second knuckle of my index finger and have a gradual pull with a surprise release. With a couple of quick turns of the Allen wrench I gained the necessary pressure I normally desire. I was shooting a 70-pound bow and while testing the head while drawing the bow back, I found a new appreciation for the durability of light-trigger releases. The .44 Caliper is available with two different straps, one buckle and one Velcro. A web-strap connection allows a torque-free string release and further promotes increased accuracy.
