Gear Review: Stealth Cam Wireless Card Reader

At the risk of making Fred Bear roll in his grave, I'm just going to come out and admit it: I can't make it through a day afield without high-tech gadgets. From my smartphone and video camera to trail cameras and even heated insoles for my boots, you'll find a handful of battery-powered devices in my pack on any given hunt.

Now, before you snicker at my technology addiction, stop and ask yourself if you're any better. Judging from the number of texts I receive from hunting buddies in their treestands, most bowhunters aren't! And assuming you are like me, two things you can always use in the woods are backup battery power and a convenient way to review camera footage.

Stealth Cam has met both those needs in a single package with its new WiFi Wireless Card Reader, a device that can instantly stream images and video files to your phone or tablet while simultaneously charging any device with a USB power cable. The Wireless Card Reader has built-in slots for SD, Micro SD and other common camera-card formats. It also broadcasts its own WiFi signal with a range of 50 feet, allowing you to wirelessly connect to the unit and manage files on the card(s) using the free Cloud Hub app compatible with iOS or Android devices.

Let's say you stop and pull an SD card from a trail camera on the way to your stand. Now, you have an easy way to review those images on your phone, save your favorites and even share them with friends while you wait for that big buck to show up. And when the buck does show up and you capture the shot with your video camera, simply put the camera card into the Wireless Card Reader to review the footage on your phone and share it via social media.

In addition to its card-reading function, the device has three USB ports and a built-in 3000 mAH battery that can be used to recharge your phone, GoPro and other devices. I find the Wireless Card Reader an extremely handy item that I carry when checking trail cameras throughout the summer as well as in my pack all hunting season. Whether I need to review scouting images, hunt footage or hero shots after the kill — or just top off my iPhone battery after a morning of texting with friends — the Wireless Card Reader is the right tool for the job.
