Shooting a bow at big game is largely about confidence, and one of the key elements in building your confidence when it’s time to touch the release is knowing the exact distance of approaching game. Today’s rangefinders have it all. Whether you’re taking the shot from a steep ridge down to unsuspecting game or shooting long distances when half-yard increments are important to making the killing shot, rangefinders really have become an essential tool for bowhunters. Here are some new options available this year that are worth taking a look at.

Bushnell Nitro

Bushnell Nitro

No rangefinder product guide would be complete without including Bushnell, and their latest advancement is the Nitro. Besides having the ability to provide accurate reading out to a mile, the feature-rich Nitro also incorporates Bushnell’s exclusive Angle Range Compensation (ARC) technology that provides the true horizontal distance; Brush Mode that is designed to ignore brush and tree branches in the foreground; Bullseye Mode which acquires ranges of small targets without inadvertently measuring background target distances and when more than one object is acquired, the closer of the two objects is shown on the LCD display and the typical Scan Mode. The Nitro’s forged polymer armor housing and EXO Barrier coating repels rain, snow, oil, dust and debris.

Halo XL500

Halo XL500

Halo has been spitting out affordable rangefinders for years, and this season they do it once again with the XL500. As the name suggests, the ergonomic XL500 offers an accurate reading out to 500 yards, and with the clear 6x magnification you won’t have any issue zeroing in at longer dis-tances or having too much magnification for those chip shots. Its standard mode provides quick reading with a single push of the button, while the scan mode flashes readings quickly as you move from target to target. To top it off, this water-resistant unit encompasses Angle Intelligence technology, so you’ll know the precise pin to use regardless of the angle.

Hawke Endurance Series

Hawke Endurance Series

With three models to choose from, the new Endurance series from Hawke will meet the needs of bowhunters and gun hunters alike. With the development of OLED technology, the Endurance se-ries offers a fully multi-coated 6X optical system with an adjustable diopter display that features red illumination icons. This provides extremely high light transmission with true color capabilities that not only give you a precise yardage reading, but does so regardless of the angle or rain condi-tions. Water- and fog-proof, the Endurance series has a durable ergonomic feel and is available in 700m, 1000m and 1500m versions.
