Gear Guide: New Hunting Packs & Clothing for 2014

As every bowhunter knows, having the right gear can make all the difference between a successful hunt and a frustrating outing in the woods.

Whether it's having the right hunting pack or the right outer layers for whatever conditions you're facing, we've got all the right gear for your next hunt. Check out our list of the best new hunting packs and field wear for the year.

ScentBlocker Matrix

If wind is a factor in your decision to stay in the woods or head back to camp, you'll want to check out the Matrix jacket and pant from ScentBlocker. Complete with WindBrake technology, you can now hunt comfortably in winds up to 50 miles per hour. Other wind-protection garments tend to be noisy, but the Matrix offers soft, warm, quiet micro fleece while the shell provides top-notch wind-blocking abilities. Add the company's trademark Trinity Technology scent control and you have a hunting outfit you'll never want to leave at home. MSRP: $199.99 each

Under Armour Ayton Fleece

Since joining the hunting industry, Under Armour has simply brought the heat — literally and figuratively. The company's products have legions of fans across the nation, and the Ayton Fleece jacket and pants combination that is new for 2014 is sure to bring even more people into the Under Armour fold. Also available in a bib, zip-up hoodie and vest, all are 100 percent Performance 400-weight Fleece. Stay dry with the Superior Moisture transport and warm with the high warmth-to-weight ratio, all while enjoying the comfort benefits that go along with polyester fleece. Available in Mossy Oak Treestand and Realtree Xtra. MSRP: $140 each (jacket and pants)

ScentLok Velocity

Scent-Lok, one of the industry leaders in scent-control clothing, has taken its most popular full-season system and made it even better. The Velocity jacket and pant combination still has the comfort, performance and versatility it always had, but now there is even more reason to celebrate. More fabric panels have been added for better fit and more mobility, as well as two new inside pockets for extra gear storage. Additionally, it will now showcase a textured fleece collar with a zipper beard protector and stretch-fit, scent-control cuffs instead of noisy Velcro. The suit remains protected by Scent-Lok's patented Carbon Alloy technology. MSRP: $149.99 each

Sitka Gear Early Season Whitetail Jacket

Last year, Sitka Gear introduced the Early Season Whitetail Pant. As a complement to that, the Early Season Whitetail Jacket has now been produced and put on the market for the 2014 season. The fabric has been constructed to stretch for silently ambushing your target in the pre-rut when the temperatures are still high and the undergrowth is still thick. Sleeve cuffs are stretchable for custom fit, a four-pocket system is included and Optifade Forest is the camo pattern. The jacket weighs just 14.8 ounces and is available in sizes S-3XL. MSRP: $269

Cabela's Whitetail Extreme Series

The popular Whitetail Extreme line of clothing from Cabela's has been improved this season with the reduced bulk of Advanced-Zone insulation. The garments feature Thinsulate Platinum insulation in your critical core areas, while Thinsulate Flex insulation is applied in key areas of movement. The series includes a parka, bibs and pants and can be purchased with or without ScentBlocker Trinity Technology for vastly improved odor adsorption. You have your choice of camouflage as well — Cabela's Zonz Woodlands, Realtree Xtra or Mossy Oak Break-Up Infinity. MSRP: $330 (parka), $300 (bibs), $240 (pants)

Badlands 2200 Pack

The 2200 was the first pack to bear the Badlands name 20 years ago. It has withstood the test of time and has been the company's bread-and-butter pack. And after listening to customers, it's back and better than ever. In addition to being a lighter carry, a third strap for added stability has been added as well as a new-and-improved meat shelf. The pockets have been reconfigured for easier loading and better organization. And improved waistbelt sizing will now accommodate a larger range of waist sizes. It's available in Realtree Xtra or Max-1 camo. MSRP: $269.95

LaCrosse Quick Shot

LaCrosse adds to its now legendary line of hunting boots with the Quick Shot — a boot that will be ready to roll by the time this fall comes around. The Quick Shot features a tongue-to-toe lacing system for a completely secure fit along with a scent-free and waterproof Scent Dry Lining. Choose between a non-insulated style and one with 600 gram Thinsulate Ultra insulation to fit your hunting needs. The suede leather and 900-denier nylon upper is abrasion-resistant so your boots stay looking good for as long as possible. MSRP: $119.95

RedHead Primal Pack

With the new RedHead Primal Pack, you no longer have to carry your weapon to your treestand, whether it be a compound bow, crossbow, recurve, shotgun or rifle. Other key features include a large main compartment that allows you to stow your favorite hunting accessories or maybe even a snack or two. It's hydration reservoir compatible and has a padded waistbelt, carrying handle, lightweight Cross Breeze frame, removeable binocular straps and two front accessory pockets. The Primal weighs 4 pounds. MSRP: $89.99

Bushnell Excursion

Bushnell Footwear is sharpening its focus on bowhunters with the new Excursion hunting boot, arriving in time for the 2014 season. Features include 400 gram Thinsulate Ultra insulation, hydro guard with a breathe-right membrane and a scent mask anti-microbial lining. Waterproof suede leather is used in combination with Realtree DWR 900-denier polyester for a sharp, durable look. An anti-slip rubber soleplate and a molded, EVA removable insole with a heat zone rounds out the package. MSRP: $129

ALPS OutdoorZ Quickdraw Pack

ALPS OutdoorZ has a history of just making things easier for the bowhunter. It continues that tradition in 2014 with the Quickdraw pack — a single sling/strap design that allows for free range of motion while shooting. The design also allows for swing-around access to all of the compartments. A padded shoulder strap can be switched to either side of the waistbelt to accommodate lefties and righties. An easy-access quiver holder is present on the right side of the waistbelt, while a rangefinder or GPS pocket is on the left. A dropdown weapon pocket secures your bow on your back. The Quickdraw weighs 2 pounds, 5 ounces and has a capacity of 1,225 cubic inches. MSRP: $79.99

Huntworth Arsenal

You still need high performance out of your hunting gloves even when it's not cold outside. With that in mind, Huntworth presents the Arsenal gloves for those warm fall afternoons. Part of the company's Sensor Series glove lineup, the Arsenal is constructed with a Bird's Eye mesh on the back of the hand and a durable, triple-layer palm. Lightweight, rugged, breathable and water resistant are the characteristics of the product that bowhunters are sure to enjoy in the field. And fear not — the seamless, wrap-around fingertip offers a sensitive feel when handling your release. Touch tips also ensure you won't have to remove your gloves to work your cell phones! MSRP: $24.99

Danner Pronghorn

The popular Pronghorn hunting boot from Danner has received a facelift and will launch in time for the fall hunting season in 2014. The new Pronghorn has reduced bulk and is 10 percent lighter than previous styles. It also features a more refined design. Features begin with a durable, waterproof, full-grain Camo Hide leather upper with rugged and lightweight 1,000-denier nylon. Consumers will have their choice of varying levels of Thinsulate Ultra insulation. The breathable Gore-Tex lining is waterproof and the boot will be equipped with a versatile outsole for use in rugged terrain. Both men's and women's styles are available in a wide range of sizes. MSRP: $179.95

Fieldline Women's Treeline Day Pack

Fieldline has expanded its line of packs for 2014 with a new model designed specifically with the huntress in mind. The Women's Treeline Day Pack provides plenty of organized space for all the gear that is needed through the course of a day afield. An extra-large main compartment with a three-quarter zipper is complemented perfectly with a smaller compartment and a front pocket for smaller items. Simply put, there is a place for everything. Available in Mossy Oak Break-Up Infinity and Realtree Xtra, there will be no mistaking whom this pack belongs to thanks to pink accents sprinkled throughout the exterior. MSRP: $42

Buck Wear The Legend Continues

Do you live for bowhunting? Do the locals consider you one of a kind? Heck, maybe you're just the most passionate outdoorsman in your family. Well, Buck Wear has introduced its newest design that has all of the above written all over it. 'The Legend Continues ' is the theme behind the latest and greatest T-shirt, and it features a bowhunter walking through the field with a monster European skull taking center stage. Shirts are 100 percent pre-shrunk cotton and available in a wide range of adult sizes. MSRP: $16.99

Day One Camouflage WINDOWcamo

Day One Camouflage is out in full force with its own WINDOWcamo pattern. Staying undetected is one of the biggest challenges bowhunters face. What makes this pattern so effective is that it uses an open design with sharp, contrasting edges and thinning branches. That being said, an approaching deer can peer right through the design without seeing anything to fear. Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? Go ahead and see for yourself. Available in fleece and bucksuede, and be sure to check out Scent-Lok apparel featuring the pattern. MSRP: Not applicable

Timber Hawk Rut Buster

When you don't need the extra weight on your back — such as when you're in search of a late-season buck — why put it there to begin with? Timber Hawk agrees, and that's why the company has produced a moderately sized pack called the Rut Buster. At 1,700 cubic inches of storage, you'll still have more than enough to carry extra clothing, rain gear, optics, etc. A hydration reservoir is included, as well as two main compartments and a removeable camo pouch that fits on your shoulder strap for your phone or a GPS unit. Also included is the Hawkeye Bino System so you can keep your optics on you at all times and stabilize them when not in use. MSRP: $105

Carhartt Thermal-Line Camo Active

Two of the most popular heavyweights in the outdoor industry have teamed up to produce apparel that is sure to get people excited without even trying it on. Carhartt and Realtree have worked together to produce a number of different clothing options for hunters and outdoor enthusiasts alike in the form of a Thermal-Line Camo Active coat in the Realtree Xtra pattern. Features include a hood with a draw-cord closure, two inside pockets, two large outer pockets and triple-stiched main seams. Wear with a pair of camo dungarees and you suddenly have a great combination that is made here in the USA. MSRP: $100 (coat), $60 (dungaree)

Bushnell Footwear Avalanche

Features abound in the new Avalanche boot from Bushnell Footwear. First and foremost, it weighs in at less than 4 pounds, and the 10-inch upper is just what bowhunters will need to keep them dry and warm. With 600 gram Thinsulate Ultra insulation and a Hydroguard membrane, the chilly, early-morning sits won't be cut short due to the cold. Additionally, its got a TPU toe guard to protect toes and high-wear areas to ensure durability for many seasons to come. MSRP: $149.99

Badlands Exo Rain Series

Few things can spoil a hunt faster than a sudden rainstorm. It gets even worse if you don't have a quality rain suit to wear during those inevitable situations throughout the course of a season. That problem is now a thing of the past as Badlands introduces the Exo Rain Series of clothing to continue the hunt even in the most aggravating of conditions. The treated polyester outer layer will repel water and oil-based liquids such as blood, and all exit points are equipped with a Scent Gasketing Layer to neutralize odors. Both jacket and pants are available in Realtree Xtra. MSRP: $199.95 each

Core4Element Selway Series

The new Selway Series of clothing from Core4Element is perfect for anybody who enjoys the great outdoors. Featuring a quarter-zip top, a vest and a beanie, the series is the perfect combination for mid-season hunting, either worn alone or as a layered piece. It incorporates a waffle pattern in the zip and vest to aid in moving moisture away from your body as well as retaining heat. Each of the three items is offered in Realtree Max-1 camo, while the quarter zip and vest are also available in sage or black. MSRP: Not available

Sitka Gear 90% Jacket and Pant

Sitka Gear's popular mid-season suit — the 90% Jacket and Pant — has undergone some improvements for 2014. First, the company has choked down the fabric, reducing wind-driven air flow by two thirds to make the series even more wind resistant. Next, the new suit includes more insulation where the body needs it, while allowing convective cooling to release heat where you don't. The jacket weighs in at 18.4 ounces and the pants follow suit at just over 16 ounces for a comfortable fit. Both pieces are finished in Optifade Open Country camo. MSRP: $289 (jacket), $269 (pants)

Rockey Game Changer

At just 1.4 pounds, Rocky Game Changer boots deliver the performance you are used to at just half the weight. The deadly combination is anchored by a polyurethane upper with an HD camo print pattern of Mossy Oak Break-Up Infinity or Realtree Xtra. The features list begins with the boots being naturally anti-microbial and waterproof. An athletic upper comes complete with an aggressive rubber outsole for comfort, traction and complete durability. MSRP: $179.99

RedHead RH 2200 Internal Frame Pack

You can do a lot with 2,200 cubic inches of capacity, and the people at Bass Pro Shops did with the RedHead RH2200 Internal Frame Pack. In all, there are 21 pockets and compartments, so there is no reason to leave anything at home due to a lack of room. The pack has a breathable mesh back panel and measures 23x14x7 inches. It is hydration compatible and made of super-strong 300D rip-stop polyester for the ultimate in durability. MSRP: $129.99

Cabela's Ultimate Hunter

There was no mistaking the purpose when Cabela's boot designers combined three of Meindl's best technologies — it was simply to construct the best, all-around hunting boot on the market. The Ultimate Hunter is what they came up with. It offers all the cushioning, support and stability you want in large part due to the Fit IQ system that utilizes memory foam that automatically adjusts to the shape of your foot and ankle. Ibex outsoles provide stealth and stability and a DIGAFix lacing system makes for the perfect fit. Boots are waterproof and breathable due to the Gore-Tex membrane that is present. MSRP: $279.99

Under Armour EVO Scent Control Leggings

Using its own Scent Control technology, Under Armour has produced the EVO Scent Control Leggings for superior moisture management. Made of 87 percent polyester and 13 percent elastane, you'll sit in total comfort and the utmost mobility while afield. Antimicrobial technology will help keep odor to a minimum to keep your gear fresh longer. Sizes range from S-XXXL. Available in Mossy Oak Break-Up Infinity, Realtree AP and Realtree Xtra. Carbon Alloy fabric is utilized to provide maximum scent control. Other features include a safety harness access opening, two waist pockets, an elastic wrist, a fly opening with snap, five pockets on the pants and an elastic waistband for perfect fit.
